out cold!

The sun was setting, as they returned from their hike on the trail.  As soon as they arrived at the front door, several soldiers were waiting outside.
“Good evening Sir, General!” One of them said, saluting John.
John saluted back.
“At ease, Sargent.” he replied.
The soldier removed his hat and turned to Lucy, shaking her hand.
“Lucy Fern!” he said. “Twin sister of Lucas Fern, turning ten years old, next month!”
Lucy smiled.
“Correct, Sir!” she replied.
Lucas was only looking at his gun strapped to the soldiers waist.  It was black, with a lot of scratches.
“Why do you need a gun?” he asked, before shaking the soldiers hand.
The soldier knelt down on both knees in front of Lucas.
“You are much taller than I expected!” he replied. “You must be at least thirteen inches tall!”
Lucas was surprised.
“How did you know?” he asked.
The soldier smiled and stood back up.
“It was a lucky guess!” he replied. “I see you still have big ears, hands and feet.  Do you know what that means?”
Lucas looked confused.
“No.” he replied.
“The lion cubs are known to have very large paws, for their small size.  It can give us an idea of how big the lion will be as an adult.” the soldier explained.
Lucas looked at his hand.
“It is weird to be so small and have such large hands and feet.” he said.
“Don’t forget big ears too!” interrupted Lucy.
“How tall do you think I will be, all grown up?” asked Lucas.
“I bet you will be even taller than your dad.” he replied.
Lucas lifted his right hand to his forehead and saluted the soldier.
“It’s nice to meet you, Sir!” he said.
The soldier saluted Lucas back.
“It is a pleasure to serve and protect you and your family!” he replied.
Lucas looked back at the soldiers gun.
“Protect us from what?” he asked.
The soldier looked at John.  John just smiled, and shook the soldiers hand.
“That is all!” he said, sending the soldier away, before the soldier had a chance to answer the question.
Lucas was feeling a little dizzy as they finally went inside their new home.
Lucy could smell something yummy was cooking for dinner, so she quickly went into the kitchen to help her Mom.
“Yum!” she said. “Smells like baked beans!”
John walked into the kitchen right behind her. “The perfect dinner for our first night living in the desert mountains.”
Thump!
Lucas fell hitting his head, before making it into the kitchen.   The sound of his head hitting the wooden floor caused John to go running to the front room.
Lucy and Tali followed, finding Lucas passed out on the floor, face down.
“Is he going to be okay?” asked Lucy.
